Delaware Canal State Park contains over 60 miles of historic canal towpath trails. These trails are beloved by hikers, as well as joggers, cross country skiers, and bicyclists.
The park has an array of natural areas, including shallow waterways, river islands, green spaces, and more. Therefore, the Delaware Canal is home to a variety of birds and wildlife. Over 150 bird species have been spotted in the park, including Bald Eagles, Heron, Osprey, various songbirds, and more!
The Giving Pond
In addition to trails and the canal, the state park is also home to Giving Pond. This 90-acre body of water used to be a sand and gravel quarry. Today, it’s a recreation area where visitors can enjoy boating (boats must be non-motorized, such as kayaks and paddleboards), fishing, and birding.
Between the Delaware Canal and the Giving Pond, there is a wide variety of species of gamefish. You can catch American shad, smallmouth bass, striped bass, Walleye, and more.
Can you think of anything more serene than enjoying a picnic along a peaceful canal or pond? We can’t! For your convenience, picnic tables are located throughout the park and near the Giving Pond.
